AI Background Remover (Free, Private, Full-Resolution)

One click removes any photo's background with AI running entirely in your browser — transparent PNGs at full resolution, batch mode, custom backgrounds. No signup, no upload, no watermark.

JPG, PNG, WebP… processed 100% in your browser — never uploaded anywhere.

Private by design: a real AI model (BiRefNet, MIT license) runs 100% in your browser via WebAssembly/WebGPU. Your photos are never uploaded — verify in DevTools’ Network tab. The model downloads once (~109MB) and is cached afterwards.

TL;DR

Drop a photo — AI cuts out the background in seconds, on your device. Download a full-resolution transparent PNG free, or swap in white, a color, or a blurred background. Up to 20 images at once with one ZIP. Nothing is ever uploaded.

How the AI works (simply)

The tool loads BiRefNet, an open, MIT-licensed segmentation model that is currently the best freely available option for this job — especially on tricky hair and fur edges where smaller models smudge. It runs through your browser’s AI runtime (WebGPU when available, otherwise WebAssembly), scores every pixel for “foreground or background”, and the tool composites the result over your chosen background with softened edges. The model file downloads once (~109MB) and is cached, so repeat visits start instantly — and work offline.

On phones, where a browser tab gets far less memory, the tool automatically switches to a tiny 4.4MB fast model so the page never crashes. It is honest about the tradeoff: for the cleanest edges on difficult photos, use a laptop.

Tips for the cleanest cutouts

Even the best AI appreciates good input: an evenly lit subject that does not blend into a similar-colored background, a little space around the subject (do not pre-crop tightly), and the highest-resolution original you have. Check the result against both the checkerboard and a white background — leftover halos hide on one and show on the other. A touch of edge softening (1–3px) fixes most minor roughness.

FAQs

A real AI segmentation model (BiRefNet, MIT-licensed) runs directly in your browser using WebAssembly/WebGPU. It predicts, for every pixel, how likely it belongs to the foreground, then cuts the background away. On phones a smaller fast model is used automatically so the tab never crashes.

There is no catch and no paid tier: unlimited removals, full-resolution PNG downloads, no signup, no watermark. It is possible because everything runs on your device — there are no servers to pay for, so there is nothing to charge you for.

Yes — that is exactly what this was built for. remove.bg retires its standalone site on 1 December 2026 and moves into Canva. Unlike remove.bg, whose free tier only gave small 625×400 previews, here every download is full-resolution and free, with no account needed.

No. The AI model downloads once (~109MB, cached afterwards) and then your photos never leave your device. Open DevTools’ Network tab while removing a background: you will see the model files load once and zero image uploads. Privacy is guaranteed by architecture, not by promise.

Clear subjects with decent contrast against the background: product photos, portraits, pets, logos. Hair, fur, glass and busy backgrounds are the hardest cases for any remover — if edges look rough, raise “Edge softening” slightly or try the fast model, which sometimes handles tricky edges differently.
