Every cleanup option, explained

The checkboxes are grouped into Whitespace and Lines. Here is what each one does:

• Trim start/end of whole text — removes leading and trailing whitespace from the entire block. Almost always worth leaving on.
• Trim each line — strips whitespace from the start and end of every line. Useful for ragged pastes, but turn it off if you need to keep indentation (for example, in code snippets or nested lists).
• Remove trailing spaces — deletes invisible spaces at line ends. These are a classic cause of weird diffs in version control and of lines that look empty but are not.
• Collapse multiple spaces — turns runs of two or more spaces into one, while deliberately preserving leading indentation so indented blocks stay intact.
• Collapse multiple blank lines — squeezes three or more consecutive blank lines down to a single blank line, keeping paragraph separation readable.
• Remove all empty lines — deletes every blank line outright. (Enabling this automatically switches off the collapse option, since the two would conflict.)
• Convert tabs to spaces — replaces tab characters with 2 or 4 spaces (your choice). Handy when pasting from spreadsheets or editors with different tab widths.

How to clean text in 3 steps
