HTML Formatter Online
Beautify messy HTML into clean, indented code — or minify it for production. Private by design: everything runs in your browser.
132 chars in → 195 chars out
Tip: <pre>, <textarea>, <script> and <style> contents are left untouched so your code keeps working. Minify mode strips comments and collapses whitespace between tags.

HTML beautifier & minifier (free, no signup)
Pasted HTML from view-source, a CMS export, or an email template often arrives as one long unreadable line. This free HTML formatter rebuilds it with clean indentation — block elements on their own lines, nested levels clearly visible — so you can actually read and edit the markup. Switch to Minify mode and it does the reverse: comments stripped, whitespace collapsed, ready for production.
The formatter understands real HTML structure: void elements like <br> and <img> are never given closing tags, inline elements like <strong> stay on the same line as their text, and the contents of <script>, <style>, <textarea> and <pre> are preserved byte-for-byte so your code keeps working exactly as before.
Common use cases
- Make minified HTML from view-source readable again
- Clean up CMS or page-builder exports before editing
- Minify templates before deploying for faster loads
- Debug broken layouts by seeing the real tag nesting
Styling the page you just formatted? Run your stylesheet through ToolsOfWeb’s CSS Minifier to shrink it for production. If you work with API payloads, the JSON Formatter does the same beautify/minify job for JSON.
FAQs
What does an HTML formatter do?+
An HTML formatter (or beautifier) takes messy, single-line, or badly indented HTML and rewrites it with clean, consistent indentation — one tag per line, nested levels clearly visible. It makes code readable without changing how the page renders.
Is my HTML uploaded to a server?+
No. Formatting and minifying run entirely in your browser. Your code never leaves your device, so it is safe for proprietary templates and client work.
Will formatting break my <script> or <style> code?+
No. The contents of <script>, <style>, <textarea>, and <pre> tags are treated as raw text and left exactly as-is — only the tags around them are indented. Whitespace inside <pre> is significant, so it is never collapsed.
What is the difference between beautify and minify?+
Beautify expands compressed HTML into readable, indented code for editing and debugging. Minify does the reverse: it strips comments and unnecessary whitespace to shrink the file for faster page loads. Use beautify while developing, minify before deploying.
Does minifying HTML affect how the page looks?+
No. Minification only removes comments and collapses whitespace between tags — the markup itself is unchanged, so the rendered page looks identical while the file downloads faster.
